Rain, Shine, Snow, Sleet or Big Wheels

The weather today is perfect - about 75 degrees and overcast, which is about the best we could possibly ask for in Oklahoma in mid-August, when it's usually 105 and so hot that we're all in perpetual bad moods.

Anyway, after lunch Jacob and I went on a neighborhood "walk" (which means that he rides some variety of trike/bike/motorized car and I physically walk). We took a different - and longer - route, down a straight street for about 8 blocks and, just like a 4 year-old boy, through every mud and water puddle left from 2 days of constant rain. We were just turning around when he decided that he was tired of riding his Big Wheel and wanted to walk, too. So, in the spirit of the Wonder Pets, we used Teamwork and proceeded to carry his Big Wheel for about 20 feet. Then Jacob tired of that, and the large/heavy/muddy burden literally fell on my shoulders. We kept walking (and stopping to pick up every rock in our path), when we came across the Mailman, one of Jacob's most favorite people, about 6 blocks from our house. After answering all kinds of questions pertaining to his truck, when our mail would be delivered, and his boots, our very nice mailman offered to stick the Big Wheel in the back of his ride and drop it off with the mail. We continued on our route and made it home just in time to meet the mailman and thank him with a partially-chilled Capri Sun.

Anyway, I now feel obligated to thicken his Christmas envelope, and I am going to start bringing a rope on walks in the event that I have to pull the Big Wheel home in the future.
