Good One, Shannon

Well, today has sucked so far. It is about 30 degrees and rain-icing (yesterday was 70 and sunny - Hello, Flu!) Anyhow, today is my day with Sugar, so after I dropped Jacob off at school, I went and picked the dog up and brought her home. As soon as we got here, I took her outside to go potty, and my hateful cat's tail brushed up against the sawed-off broomstick handle that's our extra security measure in the kitchen and - you guessed it - I was locked out of our house. So after trying every door and window and cursing myself for not hiding a key months ago like I had planned, I scooped up the dog and went to our neighbor's house who, luckily, was just walking out the door to work. I called Mark on his cell, but it went straight to voicemail, and tried his office, who said they weren't expecting him until lunchtime. F*#k. I then spent 20 minutes debating which window would be the least expensive to replace. After realizing that I am in no way strong enough to hurl anything hard enough to break something, I thought I might be able to find something in the garage that would help me lift the bar. Anyway, I took Sugar, a Swiffer, and a crowbar back into our backyard, and tried to wedge the borrowed items into the half-inch opening that I could get when I budged the door. Nothing. So then I got the dog and was going back to their house when she jumped out of my arms and ran for 2 blocks. Double F*#k. Oh, and remember that it's ice-raining. Then our other neighbor helped me catch the little devil, lent me a leash, and I was able to get back inside the first neighbor's house. Finally Mark called (yes, I just answered their phone) and left a meeting to rescue me. I owe him big. On the upside, I now have a key hidden; on the downside, I now am 34 years and one day old, and who's to say that the symptoms of old age will wait a whole year to begin?
