The Mouths of Babes Part 2

Sunday night we watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We aren't dedicated viewers, but we have watched and enjoyed it a few times. Both times we've seen it the recipients of the makeover have been disfigured-from-birth people, making it all the more heartwarming and, at the same time, difficult to explain to a preschooler. We've tried to use it as kind of an "all people are different and lucky in their own way" lesson. Anyway, Sunday night's Deserving Person was some woman who was born with no legs and half of one arm. I really can't even describe Jacob's reaction, but I think I did a good job explaining that even though she looked different, she was lucky because she had 4 kids who loved her soooo much that they wanted her to have a new house that was easier for her to get around. Anyway, then Mark mentioned the words "ice cream" and all was lost, so we didn't even see the end of the show; "out of sight, out of mind," right?

So then last night we went to this VIP party at the Zoo for the new dinosaur exhibit. Jacob is very chatty, and had a lengthy conversation with this nice lady on the tram ride about his name, his age, the zoo, his favorite dinosaur, etc. Typical cute kid stuff. Until Jacob casually drops the nugget, "Hey, guess what? I watched a movie about a lady with no legs and half an arm." Thank goodness Mark stepped in to provide a little more information, because I'm sure the woman was wondering if we also let our 4 year-old watch gay midget porn and donkey shows on the internet.
