Once Upon a Night...

Fairy Tale Ball was last night. A big black-tie event that starts at 5:30 and always requires a good deal of time to prepare for. But that time-allotment thing only happens in Fairy Tales and, in Reality, we spend all day outside enjoying our beautiful weather and then go to Home Depot at 3:30 in our yucky, work-in-the-yard clothes. Come home at 4, disregard the fact that our 5 year-old should probably take a nap and, instead, let him play with the neighbors until 4:40. After 3 fast showers, Mark and I start to get dressed. Meanwhile, Jacob is in the backyard, butt naked, taking pictures of the dog (who had just returned from the salon with pink bows in her hair) with my iPhone. After 3 reminders to come inside, he sees the neighbors playing in the street and stands in front of the bay windows (still naked) knocking on the glass to get their attention so he can "wave hi." We finally get dressed (unless one of my brothers gets married, FTB is likely the only time my entire family will be dressed up at the same time, so enjoy the pics), are out the door at 6:05, and make it to the Ball just in time to hit the open bar before it closes (that part is kind of "Fairy Tale-ish," right?). Jacob finds his friends, and we spend a few minutes watching them terrorize the place until we wrangle the kids into their designated area, and we join the adults for dinner and an auction. At 9, I go get Jacob, who seems to be ready to hit the dance floor and show off the moves he's been practicing. But, true to Fairy Tale form, we hit the bottom step and the magic is over for our little Prince Charming; he has turned back into a pumpkin and can barely keep his eyes open. We get him to bed at 10, and think that maybe the exhaustion will cause him to sleep in. But, alas, that also only happens in Fairy Tales...
